Fitzpatrick hails chaplains
UK MINISTER of Shipping Jim Fitzpatrick met with a delegation of port chaplains from as far away as New Zealand, Brazil and Ghana, at the Sailors’ Society Global Port Chaplains Conference in London last week.
Mr Fitzpatrick attended the first day’s reception at Ince & Co, where he met and mingled with chaplains as well as organisers and supporters. Visibly moved by a film on the work of the Sailors’ Society, he declared himself «really humbled» by the work of the society’s chaplains «as their support of seafarers is very significant. They are an invisible workforce and 1 am only too pleased to endorse their work.»
The same week saw Mr Fitzpatrick visit Silvertown to help launch the Apostleship of the Sea’s annual Sea Sunday Campaign, the association’s annual national fundraising and awareness effort which took place on Sunday, hosted by the Tate & Lyle Thames refinery.
The visit included the presentation of a cheque for Ј5,000 to the AOS from Chellaram Shipping, whose ship Darya Yog was at Tate & Lyle’s Silvertown refinery.
